About Us: Detroit Heals Detroit is a youth-led org that exists to foster healing justice for Detroit youth in which they are able to transform their pain into power. With a goal to combat trauma, we use healing centered engagement to share our greatest vulnerabilities with the rest of the world while simultaneously working to dismantle oppressive systems for marginalized Detroit youth.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Coordinate youth organizing programs
  • Develop relationships with key community leaders and identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategy
  • Develop or approve budgets and operations
  • Research existing models for community-based safety and youth-led healing models and use this to shape our programming
  • Develop and implement data collection and evaluation efforts to track our impact and summarize data into reports, brochures, etc that can be used for advocacy efforts
  • Facilitate regular coalition meetings and work closely with partners to implement programs
  • Build relationships and coordinate programming with other organizations in Detroit that engage in youth organizing and healing justice work
  • Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements
  • Supervise all program and project managers involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems
  • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people
  • Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Building relationships with school administrators, Teachers, Parents, and Students in Detroit schools
  • Keep the team informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations
  • High emotional intelligence and a resourceful, abundance mindset.
  • A desire and ability to work independently; move quickly, but deliberately; share and receive critical feedback; and bring authenticity, humor, and vulnerability to the workplace.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years nonprofit experience
  • College Graduate Preferred
  • Entrepreneurial–ability to find solutions without waiting for instructions and when no playbook exists.
  • Detroiter or strong knowledge of current and historic Detroit quality of life issues including education, housing, poverty, etc 
  • Experience working and co-leading with young Black people
  • Experience building strategy with a range of stakeholders including external partners, members, and staff
  • Experience program design, implementation and evaluation
  • 2+ years of experience managing multiple employees
  • Experience in healing justice, youth organizing, transformative justice and other community safety approaches
  • Experience working with partnership development and coalition building
  • Familiarity with traditional organizing tactics such as: organizing, facilitating effective meetings, one-on-ones, giving feedback etc.
  • Experience writing grants 
  • Proven experience as a lead program director or other director/managerial position
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Excellent Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting
  • Working knowledge of MS office and program management software (e.g. Basecamp, MS Project etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
